hawaii superferry…?
most of you have seen or heard in the news that people from the island of kaui and maui protested when the superferry arrived at their docks..now for me living on the island of oahu im for and support the superferry b/c its alot cheaper and the plus side we can bring our vehicle on board instead of shipping it when ever we visit the other islands..there are those who are for and against the sperferry..its basically the biggest headline in the 808 state..but i was wondering what the people from the mainland think about this..
Like everything else that would be of relative value, there will always be, pro’s and con’s. What I don’t get is, they protest the Superferry due to the “enviornment” of the Marine Life, but yet, there is no protest against the airlines that fly to and from Hawaii, and how it contributes to the erosion of the environment.
If preserving the environment, whether it’s the marine life or wild life, then, we must look at EVERYTHING that contributes to environmental degradation. Automobiles, airplanes, helicopters, illegal waste and toxic dumping, so on and so on. And yet, we accept ALL of these transporters to deplete our natural resources.
Whether the main reason is due to preservation or as to who is to build the infrastructure for this passanger/cargo transporter at the docks, the People have to realize that, without economical growth within their own counties, the economy of that county will suffer. Hawaii relies heavily on business growth, if the business don’t prosper, there are no jobs. If there are no jobs, the more the State has to support them by means of Welfare. And that would mean, the more People on welfare, the higher the taxes increase.
So, why stop progress that will be of economical value to everyone? Majority of the Local People will utilize it if the price is cheaper than a plane fare. It’s ok to preserve our wild life and marine life. But it’s not ok to stop one progress when all the others are contributors to the depletion of our natural resources. We only contradict ourselves by doing so.
